Sunday School

“Train the child in the way he should go. And when he is old he will not turn from it” (Prov 22, 6)

These wise words from King Solomon could well be the motto of our Sunday School Ministry.

Maman Nicole Kabasele once said: “We believe that children belong to God. We are only caretakers”. This paraphrase of Psalm 127, 3 implies that, one day, we shall be accountable to God regarding the children that He has entrusted us with. Therefore, we should count it a divine duty to train them properly, by laying in their hearts a firm spiritual foundation. Only then will they hopefully make wise decisions as they grow older.

Moreover, in a world where anti-values  are disturbingly rife, where wickedness prevails over Christian principles, where obscene slogans are shouted from the rooftops, where peer pressure and temptations are sometimes irresistible for our kids, where raising children is nothing short of heroism;…the Church also needs to step in and fully play its role of a counter-balance to a world gone completely mad. We need to give to our kids, right from a very young age, the straightening and strengthening message of the Bible, so that they would not be led astray by our corrupt society.

A special emphasis should be put on the crucial parental role in the upbringing of their kids. True, the Sunday school plays a considerable part in instructing them. However, parents are and remain their children first and best educators.

So, Parents, take responsibility! Encourage and Instruct your children at home. Raise them according to divine principles, before passing them onto the Sunday school!

 1.     Our Goals

 They are as follows:

1. To Get our kids to know God, their Creator and their Father.

2. To Teach them the Word of God with simplicity.

3. Like Samuel, to help them become familiar with the sound of God’s voice. (Sam 3, 1-10)

4. To Help them understand that there is no true happiness away from Jesus-Christ.

5. To Train them confront and reject any doctrinal heresy coming their way, be it at school or in the streets.

 2. Methods

We use 2 main didactic materials:

a) The picture Bible: its colored pages pave the way to an easier and better understanding of many biblical stories and concepts.

b) The Internet: A must when it comes to searching and gathering the relevant information in order to back up some of our teachings. We widely use it to copy and paste some vital children-related documents.

We would like, at this point, to make a plea to any generous person, who is adamant to see this Ministry become a more efficient and productive force. We are in deep need of a TV/video recorder in order to show some educative and Christian movies to our kids. Please help, if you can.

 3. Results observed

We delight ourselves in the following results:

a) Our Children know the 2 divisions of the Bible: The New Testament and the Old Testament

b) Some of them even can find their way to specific books in the Bible

c) Their ability to retain and explain certain key verses in the Bible (John 3:16/1 John 4:8)

d) Their ability to apply the lessons learned (Love, Help, and Submission to parents…)in their daily lives.

e) Their ability to differentiate between good deeds from bad deeds, based on the Bible.

 4. Future Projects

 1. In order to boost their confidence and their self-esteem, we plan to regularly organize special cultural programs and Sunday services entirely presented by our children.

2. Organize fellowships with Sunday schools of other churches.
